For Want Of

For Want Of
Pairing: Kind of Matsumiya
Word Count: ~500
Summary: Nino getting stuck with food he can't eat for a whole day and Jun notices and goes out of his way to get him a hamburger.
A/N: A prompt from [personal profile] floweranza.

Nino looks like he doesn't care. He's sitting on the tatami, elbows on the low table, absorbed in his game. The sound is off, so all Jun can hear is the press of buttons under Nino's clever thumbs. But Jun knows that he does: there are shadows under Nino's eyes, and his face is pale.

"Here." Jun puts the bag on the table. There's rain in the creases of the bag, and the writing on it, red, says First Kitchen. Not Nino's favorite, but it had been the closest. It would have to do.

Nino's eyes dart sideways, before his nose notices. Then the DS goes off, flipped closed with a snap and set in his lap. "Where'd you get that?"

Jun waves his hand negligently.

Nino's not fooled—Jun feels his gaze creep under the edges of his rain-streaked hair. It's not hard to notice the polka-dot streaks of rain on his jacket, either. Jun sheds it under Nino's silence, and throws it somewhere else, so Nino can't look so pointedly knowing. "Just eat it. It's not gourmet or anything but I know you haven't eaten today."

The wrapper is noisy as Nino opens it and flattens it down on the table. The room smells like fast food already. Not Jun's favorite smell, but right now, he doesn't mind. Nino's eyes crease in pleasure as he bites into the burger, and he finds it just as he likes it: pickles, special sauce, lettuce, tomato. He's messy about it, tucking food into his cheek and leaving a smear of sauce against the top of his lip.

Worth it, Jun thinks. Under the table, he stretches out his legs, and his toes bump Nino's shin.

"You really are the perfect man," Nino says around his food. It's a testament to how long they've known each other that Jun understands him, because Nino is really going at it.

Jun laughs, and it feels good. The bubble of worry that'd been in his chest pops and loosens. "You can make it a story for your next interview," he says, and reaches into his bag to fish out a book.

"No," Nino says. The word is heavy and thoughtful, and startles Jun into looking up. Nino is looking at him in his indirect way, eyes dark and measuring. "No. I think I'll keep this one to myself."

Under the table, his legs unfold to cross over Jun's, and then he goes back to his burger, taking another bite with a blissful noise.

Jun watches him a moment longer, Nino's words still with him. The cold from the rain is gone; Nino has replaced it with warmth.

"That's fine, too."

Awww... just love this. It's - I don't want to say cute, because I say that too much, although it is cute. I love the way Jun gives Nino what he needs/wants, rather than trying to feed Nino proper food XD

Mostly, reading this just makes me happy, and for that I thank you ♥
